The faculty of the Graduate College shall be prescribed by the University of Illinois Statutes. Faculty membership in the Graduate College is granted by the dean of the Graduate College or his/her designee on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Graduate College.  Nominations for membership shall be made by the Executive Officer of the department of other equivalent unit.  There are four categories of faculty membership:  1) Full membership, which is granted for the term of employment to those members of the tenure system faculty (tenure-track and tenured) who have been recommended by the department or other teaching or research divisions.  In the College of Medicine, this recommendation is limited to appointments in the Research Track (RT); 2) Associate membership, which is granted to members of the clinical track or non-tenure system faculty, allows the faculty member to serve as a primary advisor for graduate students; 3). Adjunct membership, which is granted for a three-year (renewable) term upon recommendation of the Executive Officer of the department or equivalent unit to adjunct faculty who meet the standards of membership, and 4) Courtesy membership, which is granted either on a committee by committee basis or for one year to non-UIC individuals who meet the standards for membership.  Associate, Adjunct, and Courtesy members have floor privileges but not voting rights at Graduate College Faculty meetings.
