Welcome – A Message from the Provost

Welcome to the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)!

UIC, much like the city it calls home, is one-of-a-kind, richly diverse, and multi-faceted. Everything we do is focused on fulfilling our mission- to provide the broadest access to the highest levels of educational, research and clinical excellence.

UIC’s undergraduate population has no racial or ethnic majority and is among the most diverse in the nation, with many students being the first generation in their family to attend college and from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. At the same time, UIC is one of four research intensive (R1) universities in the state and the only public R1 university in Chicago. For these reasons UIC is truly unique.

We expect faculty excellence in research, scholarship, creative work, innovation, teaching, and clinical service. Your role in advancing UIC’s ambitious and critical mission brings with it a complex set of privileges, responsibilities, and rewards, to yourself, your colleagues, our students, and your area of scholarship. We expect that your work will have both local and global impact.

Our community is fully committed to supporting you as you navigate our campus and your own academic trajectory. We know that as you progress in your career, you too will help those that come after you as they join our university.

Welcome again to the UIC Family and the UIC Community – we are honored to have you with us.
